The Washington Post called Hungarian flutist DORA SERES’* debut recital at the Kennedy Center, “Entrancing, dazzling, a stunning display of skill.” Having won the 2005 Young Concert Artists International Auditions in New York, Ms. Seres was also awarded the Summis Auspiciis Prize, which sponsored her debut recital at Carnegie’s Zankel Hall in New York, and The Alexander Kasza-Kasser Prize, which sponsored her debut recital at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. In April 2007, she made her New York concerto debut with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s in Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Rose Theater, as part of YCA’s gala Irene Diamond Concert.
Named the “Best Hungarian Classical Musician” by Gramophone in 2005, Ms. Seres won the 2003 Young Concert Artists European Auditions in Leipzig, First Prize in the 2003 Budapest International Flute Competition, First Prize in the 2001 Prague Spring Competition, the 2001 Hungarian National Flute Competition, and the woodwind competition of the 1999 Prague-Vienna-Budapest International Summer Academy. She won prizes in the 2002 International Flute Competition in Markneukirchen (Germany) and the 2001 International Flute Competition in Kobe (Japan). She was recipient of the Annie Fischer State Scholarship in Hungary for three consecutive years, 2003-2005.
Ms. Seres has performed in Boston, Switzerland, Japan, Vienna, and at the Bartók House in Budapest. The Hungarian Culture Center has presented her in concert at Kensington Palace in London, in Stuttgart, and in Helsinki, Tampere and Turku, Finland. She has performed as soloist with the Hungarian Radio Orchestra, the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, the MÁV Symphonie Orchestra, and the Filharmonie East-Hungary. She is currently Principal Flutist for the Danish Radio Sinfonietta in Copenhagen.
Ms. Seres has appeared at festivals including the Marlboro Music Festival in Vermont, the Usedomer Musikfestival (Germany), the Central European Music Festival in Bratislava (Slovakia), the Obuse and Yamanami International Music Festivals in Japan, the Budapest Spring Festival, and the National Kodály Artistic Festival.
Born in Szombathely, Hungary in 1980, Ms. Seres graduated from the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest in 2002, where she studied with Lóránt Kovács. She studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich with András Adorján from 2002-2004, then returned to Budapest for postgraduate studies at the Franz Liszt Academy. She has worked and performed with celebrated flutist Paula Robison and participated in Master Classes of Emmanuel Pahud, Aurele Nicolet and William Bennett.
Ms. Seres’ first CD, a collaboration with pianist Emese Mali entitled “Flautissimo”, was released in 2004 by Hungaroton Records.
