Benjamin Moser is a pianist of “color, atmosphere and delicate nuance, with technical mastery and youthful exuberance.” (Süddeutsche Zeitung, Germany). His first CD of Russian Piano Music by Rachmaninoff, Scriabin, Medtner, Tchaikovsky, and Prokofiev was released by Oehms Classics in 2009, and he will record works by Debussy and Ravel with them this season. Mr. Moser performs extensively throughout Germany this season, with countless recitals throughout the country.  He appears as soloist at the Deutchlandfunk in Cologne, in the Hamburg Laeizhalle, and at the State Theater Karlsruhe.  In the US, he performs as soloist with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall and the Fargo-Moorhead, Dearborn, and Peoria symphonies and appears in recital at the German Embassy and Mary Baldwin College.

Winner of the Sander Buchman First Prize of the 2007 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, Mr. Moser made his debuts in the Young Concert Artists Series at Carnegie’s Zankel Hall, sponsored by the Jerome L. Greene Foundation Prize, and at the Kennedy Center’s Terrace Theater in Washington, DC, sponsored by the Alexander Kasza-Kasser Prize. At the Auditions, he was also awarded the Miriam Brody Aronson Award; the first Ruth Laredo Memorial Award, created honor of the distinguished pianist and Alumna of YCA; the Alice Rosner Foundation Prize; the Slomovic Orchestra Soloist Prize; the Saint Vincent College Bronder Prize for Piano; and the Gulbenkian Foundation Concert Prize for a concert in Paris. Previously, Mr. Moser was a winner of the 2006 Young Concert Artists European Auditions in Leipzig, Germany.

Mr. Moser has performed concertos in the U.S. with the Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle and the Hilton head Symphony, and recitals at the Morgan Library and Museum, the Buffalo Chamber Music Society, the University of Georgia, and his Boston debut at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. He has appeared as soloist with the London Philharmonic Orchestra in Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, at the Tonhalle in Zurich performing the Chopin Piano Concerto No.2, with the Northwest German Philharmonic and in recitals in Argentina, the Netherlands, Italy and Germany. Mr. Moser has also performed with the Brandenburg Symphony, the Polish Chamber Philharmonic, the Ulmer Philharmonic and the Munich Symphony, and at the YCA Festivals in Tokyo and Beijing.  He recorded the Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Bamberg Symphony, for broadcast on Bavarian Radio.

Prize winner at the 13th International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, Mr. Moser was also awarded the Audience Prize and the Award for the Best Interpretation of a Tchaikovsky Work there. He also grabbed First Prize in Berlin’s Artur Schnabel Piano Competition. Mr. Moser has received scholarships from the German Music Council Competition, and the Steinway Award in Berlin. Born in Munich in 1981 into a family of musicians, he began his piano studies at the age of five. Mr. Moser won prizes in many young artist competitions and studied with Michael Schäfer at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich. Since 2002 he has worked with Klaus Hellwig at the University of the Arts in Berlin.
