2012 European Auditions
First Prize Winners of the European Auditions in Leipzig are given a round-trip air ticket between a European capital city and New York City to participate in the Final Rounds of the Young Concert Artists International Auditions from November 5-10, 2012 in New York, and will be provided with private housing. The winners also receive US $1,000 and will be presented in a Prizewinners Concert on September 9, 2012 at the Mendelssohn-Haus in Leipzig. At least one winner will be offered a paid engagement at the Usedomer Festival in Usedom, Germany.
First Prize Winners of the Final Auditions in New York are presented in debut concerts in New York, Washington, D.C. (Kennedy Center), and Boston (Gardner Museum). Winners receive a YCA management contract for three or more years, which brings concert engagements throughout the United States, publicity, promotional materials, and career guidance. Numerous special prizes and engagements are awarded to Winners and Finalists. The value of the First Prize has been estimated at US $75,000.
THE TWO ROUNDS
Preliminary Auditions will be held Tuesday through Thursday, September 4-6, 2012, in the Main Concert Hall of the Hochschule für Musik und Theater “Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy” in Leipzig. Artists passed to the Final Round will be announced at the end of each day of the Preliminary Auditions. Final Auditions will be held on Saturday, September 8, in the Hochschule Concert Hall. Preliminary Auditions last approximately 15 minutes; Final Auditions last approximately 20 minutes.

LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION: Send two letters of recommendation from professional musicians specifically describing your potential for a concert career.
Note to singers: at least one of the letters must specifically recommend you on the basis of your song/lieder singing ability (not opera).
APPLICATION FEE: The application fee is US $65 and must be paid at the time of application. This fee is not refundable if you are accepted for a Preliminary Audition.
The fee may be paid in one of the following forms: online at www.yca.org/auditions; an international money order, in U.S. dollars; a bank check drawn on a U.S. bank in U.S. dollars; cash in U.S. dollars; or by VISA or MASTERCARD. No other form of payment is accepted.
The fee may be waived in cases of serious financial hardship – please include a detailed explanation with your application.
PARTICIPANTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR TRAVEL and other expenses related to the Leipzig Auditions.
ACCOMPANISTS: Hochschule staff accompanists are available for a fee of 85 € (Euros), including a two-hour rehearsal and audition, but must be requested at the time of application. (Fee to be paid in Leipzig at the time of the audition.)
HOUSING: A list of reasonably priced housing options will be sent.
PRACTICE FACILITIES: Practice rooms at the Hochschule will be available free of charge to all participants each day beginning on September 3 at 15:00.
