46TH YOUNG CONCERT ARTISTS SERIES August 4, 2006 – The Young Concert Artists Series proudly presents its 46th Season of concerts showcasing the talents of the winners of the Young Concert Artists International Auditions. For the second year, the Series will be held at Zankel Hall at Carnegie. The 2006-2007 Season opens on Monday, November 6 with the New York debut of 22-year-old French harpist Emmanuel Ceysson, who won the Gold Medal at the 2004 USA International Harp Competition in Bloomington, Indiana. He has just been chosen as the principal harpist of the Paris Opera Orchestra. Mr. Ceysson’s debut will include the premiere of Suite Sylvanesque by YCA Composer-in-Residence Benjamin C.S. Boyle. 18-year-old French pianist Jean-Frédéric Neuburger, who makes his New York debut on Monday, December 4, has recently released his second recording of Chopin works on the DiscAuvers label. Le Journal (France) says that Mr. Neuburger “is already one of the great pianists, and all that is needed is for him to become known.” The Amedeo Modigliani Quartet will make its New York debut on Tuesday, February 27. The French quartet (Philippe Bernhard and Loïc Rio, violinists, Laurent Marfaing, violist, and François Keiffer, cellist) won first prize at the 2004 TROMP International String Quartet Competition in the Netherlands, its first international competition. Nice-Martin (France) writes “These four young musicians are already great.” On Monday, March 19, the Series presents “Music by YCA Composers” at Weill Hall at Carnegie, featuring works by Mason Bates, Benjamin C.S. Boyle, Kenji Bunch, Daniel Kellogg, and Kevin Puts, and performed by current YCA artists cellist Efe Baltacigil, pianist Chu-Fang Huang, and The Jupiter String Quartet; YCA alumnus clarinetist Todd Palmer; and the participation of composers Kenji Bunch on viola and Kevin Puts on piano. This concert will include the premiere of Daniel Kellogg’s String Quartet. YCA Alumnus Scott Yoo will conduct the Orchestra of St. Luke’s in YCA’s annual Irene Diamond Concert at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Rose Hall on Wednesday, April 18. This concert will feature the New York concerto debuts of pianist Chu-Fang Huang, flutist Dora Seres, and pianist Gleb Ivanov. Young Concert Artists, Inc. is a non-profit organization founded in 1961, which presents the winners of its annual Auditions in debut concerts and also provides management services to launch the careers of exceptional young musicians.
The concerts at Zankel Hall are made
possible, in part, with generous support from the Florence J. Gould
Foundation. This Series is also supported by a grant from the National
Endowment for the Arts and with public funds from the New York State
Council on the Arts, a State Agency.
