BENJAMIN
C.S. BOYLE CHOSEN AS NEWEST May
20, 2005 — A
panel of Young Concert Artists “alumni” musicians has selected
25-year-old American composer Benjamin C.S. Boyle as the 2005-2007 Young
Concert Artists Composer-in-Residence.
As part of his two-year residency, Mr. Boyle will write two
commissioned works to be premiered by two new members of the Young Concert
Artists roster. The first work will
be written for cellist Efe Baltacigil, who will premiere the work in his
debut recitals in the Young Concert Artists Series next season at Zankel
Hall at Carnegie in To One in Paradise,
Mr. Boyle’s most recent work, was commissioned and premiered by the
Bachanalia Festival Orchestra at Merkin Hall in Mr. Boyle is

The members of the Young Concert Artists Alumni panel that selected
Mr. Boyle were Kenji
Bunch (composer), Jeremy Denk (pianist), Eugene Drucker (violinist), Paul
Dunkel (flutist), Ani Kavafian (violinist), Ida Kavafian (violinist and
violist), Christòpheren Nomura (baritone), Ursula Oppens (pianist), Todd
Palmer (clarinetist), and Hiroko Yajima (violinist). The Young Concert
Artists Composer-in-Residence Program was started in 1994 as an
initiative of the YCA Alumni Association.
It receives
support from the Aaron Copland Fund for Music, Gladys Krieble Delmas
Foundation and the Alumni musicians of Young Concert Artists. Young Concert
Artists, Inc. is a
non-profit organization that has developed and launched the careers of
extraordinary musicians including Emanuel Ax, Murray Perahia, Dawn
Upshaw, Richard Goode, Paula Robison, Carter Brey, Pinchas Zukerman,
Jean-Yves Thibaudet, and the Tokyo and St. Lawrence Quartets. YCA’s four previous
Composers-in-Residence, still members of the roster, are Mason Bates,
Kenji Bunch, Daniel Kellogg and Kevin Puts. ### FOR
